I've got a lot of nickels for every time someone put me in a coffee shop AU. My favorite was the one where I was a barista in a struggling band that was trying to make it big while I was supporting my brother's higher education. But they were mostly just a bunch of self-insert fic.

AU means alternate universe. It's basically when they take you and put you in another situation in another parallel universe.

Like instead of Spider-Man being a webslinger in NYC, he's a pirate on a ship.

Or a vampire, but like, a noble one.
