Character Information

Character: Nathan Summers aka Cable
Canon: Deadpool 2 (XMCU), leaving Essex House, Final Scene (for Cable)
Age: 52
History: xmcu wiki
Possessions: Teddy Bear, Time-Slider (broken)
Weapon: N/A

Powers/Abilities:
techo-organic virus
Most of upper-left side has been altered by a techno-organic virus he's had since birth. It turns flesh into cybernetic/bionic material.
- his metal arm is bullet-proof and stronger than his flesh one
- he can generate a force-field from his arm that can withstand bullets, fire-blasts
- cable can interact with technology through his arm and eye, allowing him to access information from databases*
- his eye can transmit holographic images*
- his eye can scan and analyse weaponry to build better weapons from the best pieces*
- his eye can give him details on his location and potential threats*
- his eye has different lenses for zooming in and generally enhanced vision

telekinesis-telepathy*
- cable has extremely powerful telekinetic/telepathic abilities that are almost entirely used to keep his virus at bay
- he seems to still have some extremely minor telekinetic ability, he can summon objects back into his hand

superhuman
- cable is a mutant with superhuman strength, he can rip the doors off trucks, bend barbells and knock humans and mutants out with a few hits
- cable is super agile, he can run faster than speeding vehicles and leap from far distances
- cable is extremely durable, he can take being thrown around by giant characters, being thrown out of buildings and car crashes

combat/weapon proficiency
- cable is a strategist
- cable is extremely proficient at hand to hand combat and seems to understand the best places to land blows efficiently
- cable is an excellent marksman and is adept at using guns of various size, he has such good accuracy, he can hit a skee-ball token from a distance with a gun
- cable keeps and uses knives and fights adeptly with them

*Nerf notes Cable's virus is a significant nerf to his powers and any plot opportunity that allows him to use them will be carefully considered by me/discussed in advance.

The "technopathy" he gets from his virus can also be nerfed as him being unable to interface/connect with technology here without getting shocks/static or he could have weak signal.

Application Questions

Who is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?
By far the most important person in Cable's life is his daughter, Hope. Unfortunately the movie left a lot his backstory vague, but it's very clear he has a strong attachment to her based on his fury at losing her and the fact that he carries her teddy bear on his belt. Since Cable is absolutely dogshit and uncreative at names, Hope's name is fairly literal. Cable resides in a terrible future where war, famine and disease run rampant. I believe it is fairly apparent that his family and more specifically his daughter give him a reason to persist with fighting and hope for change.

Cable is not an openly warm or gentle person but I think he makes a particular effort for his daughter. He certainly would be raising her to be independent and capable, but I think having a child reminds him of what's good in the world and what love can do for a person. It also makes him susceptible to adopting and protecting other strays, which is a cornerstone of Cable's journey with X-force in the comics.

Without Hope he would not have travelled back in time and would not have met Wade, who may have died in prison thanks to the power dampening collars. He would not have made the choice to stay in the past and fight for a better world for her, so he'd likely still be fucking around in 2068 instead of wherever he is now.

Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why?
Cable's arc in Deadpool 2 begins with him being an antagonist who is hellbent on killing a kid. This is a little hard to reconcile when by all accounts he seems like a fairly reasonable person, so it seems likely that he's running on rage fumes.

I think he regrets his recklessness and probably thinks he could have made more pragmatic and reasonable choices and still attain his desired outcome. Perhaps by simply travelling back a short distance and clobbering Firefist before he killed his family, but we listen and we don't judge.

He certainly regrets taking about 50 years of trauma out on an equally traumatised 14 year old, rather than taking an approach more in line with Wade's where rehabilitation instead of extermination wins out.

Overall, I think Cable is the sort of person who owns his decisions and regrets and doesn't allow himself to become too burdened by them. Probably because when you have time travel at your beck and call, you could spend your whole life rewinding and redoing things.

What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting?
Cable is burdened by his genetic predisposition to having a Messiah Complex. Cable is a fixer by nature and likes to put himself in the forefront and lead. He's also fairly independent by nature and not terribly good at working in teams he's not leading.

He'll have to adapt to taking an ancillary role at times and also come to terms with the fact that there's not a lot of practical solutions to the problems they'll face in the setting (namely being there at all).

What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting?
Cable is a seasoned survivalist and soldier. He's survived ongoing war, disease and all the other fun stuff Marvel wants to imply about the future he lives in (giant evil bugs). At the start of Deadpool 2 he hits the ground running by stealing a truck from some hicks and by raiding various stores to buy supplies (and like 5 new outfits apparently). He doesn't need to be given weapons or tools, he can be innovative and use what he has at hand. He repeatedly deals with interference and is perfectly able to pull back, regroup and come back with a new plan.

He's combat-experienced, which means more than being able to defend himself (though that's important). It also means he's cautious about his surroundings, can operate on low food/sleep, can strategise and plan ahead. I foresee him shaking his head at his travel companions and probably teaching others survival skills while keeping an eye on them, since there's strength in numbers and it's better if the numbers don't make dumb mistakes. He's shown in Deadpool 2 to have the inclination to work with others and be transparent with them when it makes a good outcome more likely.

name: Shadow the Hedgehog
canon: Sonic the Hedgehog (IDW)
age: Ageless (50+)
canon point: IDW #77

history:
Game and IDW | IDW builds on the game characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with their plot moving forward after Sonic Forces.
abilities:
I'm so sorry mods, Shadow does everything, and I held my head as I started listing this section. He's basically "rule of cool" turned up to 11, so they just had this hog doing WHATEVER, but I promise to negotiate any crazy things he does with you guys or my fellow players, and you can feel free to put a cap on anything that you as mods feel is too crazy.

Speed: Shadow is able to move at super speed. Said to possess "ultimate speed," Shadow is able to match the speeds reached by Sonic, who is able to reach light speed. Although Shadow's Air Shoes have been credited as the source of his speed, his powerful body allows him to easily rival Sonic's world class speed as well. He doesn't get tired.

Durability and Immortality: Shadow was designed to be a medical key to curing illnesses that did not yet have cures, and is resistant to all known illnesses from the world he comes from, which we can treat as Earth for ease. This would not qualify for unknown or foreign diseases. Due to his alien DNA, he also does not age or die of old age, and has spectacular regenerative abilities, even withstanding bullets without significant damage.

Limiter Rings: The golden bracelets around his wrist and ankles, also called inhibitor rings, limit the amount of power that Shadow can utilize. If he removes them, he becomes a walking dynamo of raw power, releasing such tremendous amounts of energy that it forms an impenetrable barrier around himself. While in this state, Shadow gains increased strength and speed. However, using his full power tires him out more quickly, and he's liable to pass out.

Chaos skills: As an artificial life form created from Black Arms DNA, and a hedgehog at that, Shadow is extremely proficient in utilizing Chaos Emeralds and Chaos Energy to perform different feats. These abilities can be used independently on a weaker scale, but become more powerful when using the energy of a Chaos Emerald. Click this description to expand and learn the specifics.
  • Chaos Spear: A spear-shaped bolt of electric energy that he can manifest in his hands and fire at enemies.
  • Chaos Snap: Shadow warps short distances to strike his opponents.
  • Chaos Blast: An explosion of highly powerful Chaos Energy that damages all that is within a 10-20 yard radius. Shadow can use it after charging the energy inside his body and firing it outside.
  • Chaos Control: A technique that lets him warp time and space. Using it, Shadow is able to warp himself along with objects or people close by across space instantaneously over a range further than an island-annihilating explosion or between dimensions, slow down or freeze time entirely, and create areas of distorted space. He needs a Chaos Emerald to be able to use this ability.

Doom abilities: Shadow was created using the DNA of Black Doom, an alien from the Black Arms race. Because he was intended to become a vessel for Black Doom in the future, he developed new skills that Black Doom wanted to utilize in taking over Earth. Click this description to expand and learn the specifics.
  • Doom Blast: After attacking an enemy in quick succession, Shadow can kick them upwards, send them flying, and simultaneously warp to the position where they were launched.
  • Doom Morph: Shadow transforms into a dark ball of Chaos energy similar in appearance to the Black Arms with red patterns that vaguely resembles an octopus like creature. In this form, Shadow now has eleven tentacles, which surround a central buccal cavity.
  • Doom Spears: Shadow is able to fire an enhanced Doom-influenced version of his Chaos Spears in rapid succession at up to five targets, they can paralyze hit foes for a short duration.
  • Doom Surf: When Shadow touches water, he automatically summons a black manta ray-like construct with red eyes and patterns.
  • Doom Wing: Shadow grows a pair of black fleshy wings with red patterns. Shadow is able to use said-wings to destroy enemies and fly in the air.
These Doom abilities were only accessible for a short time during Shadow Generations due to his Black Doom DNA. He would not have access to them on entry to this game, but would it be possible for him to regain them later through activity or plot?

Super Shadow: When he's given the power of all seven Chaos Emeralds, Shadow is able to turn into Super Shadow, much like Super Sonic, all of Shadow's abilities far surpass his normal ones and his chaos powers are increased to their full limit. He is also able to fly and is nearly invulnerable.
personality:
Shadow is a hog of few words - the type who would rather not engage with others unless he has to. As the self-proclaimed Ultimate Lifeform he's confident, prideful and independent to a fault. He's the type to work alone, and when others interact with him, it can be difficult because he quickly loses his patience with any interactions he sees as frivolous or wasting his time. He displays an overall cranky attitude at most times, and that negativity of his comes from his losses during military raid on the Space Station called ARK.

During the military raid Maria Robotnik, who had treated him like family, was killed at gunpoint. This pain had set in Shadow's heart for over 50 years, his memories tampered with to induce his hatred towards humans, and once awoken, Shadow had set off to enact his promise to enact revenge Maria. It was only through Amy's reminder of how Maria had loved the world, Shadow was able to remember the true request that she had made to him: to protect the Earth and all the people on it.

“For all people who live on that planet... give them a chance to be happy... Let them live for their dreams. Shadow, I know you can do it. That's the reason why you were brought into this world. Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog."

That doesn't mean that he has to be nice about it though. Shadow couldn't let go of the resentment he feels towards the humans who killed Maria, and his sour attitude serves as a wall that he puts up around himself to keep people from bothering him. Because of this mean personality, he tends to come off intimidating. He only focuses on things that matter, leaving little to no space in his mind for others that he finds to be fools.

While he won't waste his time on liabilities, and has never built a bond like the one he had with Maria since her death, he has developed some strong relationships since his return to Earth, especially with unit E-123 Omega and Rouge the Bat due to their common goals. Rouge has shown great care and commitment towards Shadow and supported him often, and likewise, whenever Rouge calls on Shadow for support, he arrives. As she said herself, “Even if you believe everyone in the world will be against you, know that I will always be by your side.” Even Omega has stated that it is good to work with Shadow, as he does not express useless terms like restraint or mercy.

Unfortunately, a wholesale personality turnaround is not something that he can change about himself easily, and Shadow remains irritable and goal-focused. Even when Dr. Eggman had his memories and became Mr. Tinker for a brief moment, Shadow still felt it was within his right to kill "Mr. Tinker" due to who he was before and all the wrong he done, only to be talked down by Sonic's willingness to take responsibility. Violence is still his first solution to problems he comes across, but he's growing slowly but surely.
